HELLO001 FUNDAMENTALS EXPLAINED

I need to insert a number just before the extension of your files which has a Bash script. for instance, I want to convert a file name like abc.efg to abc.001.efg. the issue is I do not know what is the extension from the file (it is one of the parameters of your script).
